Toronto Exchange Application

Toronto Exchange Application

The winning ticket for Toronto Metropolitan University

Design
2022

On the fourth of October 2022, I was nominated by my home university (Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences) for the Toronto Metropolitan University (former Ryerson) exchange program (Mainly the Creative School within TMU) during the winter semester of 2022/2023. An opportunity that I have been looking forward to for many, many years.

To be selected you had to design and create an application document containing all sorts of files such as a motivation letter, CV, courses you wish to study, Grades list, and many more. Since I am a creative student I put a lot of time and effort into my exchange application so that I could be sure mine would be the winning ticket to Toronto. (Toronto is a very popular destination within the design course).

I spent weeks brainstorming and designing different iterations for my application. I wanted my application to have a defined theme, a great cover, and a great motivation letter. I experimented with colors, typography, layout, hierarchy and so much more. The document got more attention than my current school work.

But after many weeks of hard work, I made something that I was proud of. I can't show you all the documents for example the ones containing personal information but I will gladly show you the following made pages.

Toronto Cover

Personally, I think the cover was the most important part of my document. The cover needed to be eye-catching and set the tone for the rest of the document. Especially when you have to check a lot of applications from other students. Displaying the CN tower makes it already obvious to which country I wanted to go.

While most of the internal documents were boring templates and documents handed from the University, I thought it was important to give my document some more life. Every chapter from my document got its own beautifully designed page.

Toronto Motivation

All the chapter pages had a certain distinct building of Toronto. For example, the motivation letter chapter had the Royal Ontario Museum in downtown Toronto as an image. I had spent a lot of time cutting the images with the slice tool in Figma and later adding a nice and clean white border around the buildings.

Toronto Courses Application

The courses chapter had the old town hall in downtown Toronto and other pages had many more such as Rogers Centre, Union Station, City Hall, and many more.

In the end, I am nothing but proud. This is a beautiful document showcasing my desire to study Abroad in Toronto Canada. We will see what adventures Toronto will bring.
