Nintendo Party
The perfect new Mario game for young and old
One of my favorite projects at the Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam was creating a digital game and website themed around Nintendo. A classmate and I spent time brainstorming and came up with a bold idea: a Mario platformer, but bigger, more action-packed, and even more fun for everyone!

My classmate created all the sprites in Adobe Photoshop, including the small animations, while I took on the role of developing the game. I used the GameMaker engine, which made building 2D games straightforward. I wrote scripts for character movements and physics (gravity and collisions), designed levels with the sprite tiles, and placed interactive objects like collectible coins and enemies. I also added sound effects and background music from older Mario games. It's still a miracle that Nintendo hasn’t sued me.
The game also features a shop where you can spend the coins you’ve collected to unlock different playable characters.

My favorite feature has to be the big explosion I implemented when you die or finish a level, which is truly amazing.

It was a fun game, and we put so much time and effort into it that we completely forgot to make the website at the end.
But the game was the real highlight, so we still earned a good grade.

Try it out for yourself (Windows Defender might warn you it’s a virus, and maybe it is in its own way).
