Lonely Island
A game about platforming through a low poly world
Let me introduce you to Lonely Island, a game where you platform through a beautiful low-poly world, collecting cubes to progress to the next level. The game features many different levels, each with its own unique environment, such as:
Forests

Snowy landscapes

Deserts

Outer space

Development
So, how did we build the game? My friend created all the 3D objects in Blender, while I used the Unity game engine to build the levels and implement scripts and music. The programming was done in C#, and the music was made with Magix Music Maker—it worked well for creating some nice beats. We playtested the game multiple times, trying to break it, speedrun it, and more. It was a fun little project to test both the engine and our skills.
Release
We uploaded the game to Gamejolt, a website where developers can share their creations, and by that same evening, it had become the most downloaded game of the night—and continued to be popular in the following days. It was a huge surprise for both of us. We started receiving reviews from players praising the game’s art style and simple mechanics, and some even made YouTube videos playing the game and sharing their opinions.

With all the feedback we received, we improved the game, added more content, and released a final update that included builds for macOS and Linux (it was originally made only for Windows). We listened to our users and gave them what they wanted, becoming product developers without even realizing it. We also added achievements, a level select for completed levels, and hidden easter eggs.
It’s been a while since we made the game, but to this day, it remains one of the best projects I’ve created. Players enjoyed it and wanted more. Sadly, the game development journey came to an end—but who knows? With creativity and determination, you can achieve great things.
