How to learn the new young generation to save money in an educational & fun way?
How do you teach the younger generation about the complex topic of saving money at an early age? By turning the experience into a fun and engaging one.
For a project at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, I designed a digital app based on a fictional challenge from ASN Bank. ASN Bank aims to teach the younger generation about both saving money and protecting the planet. I combined these two themes in my app, called ASN Forest.
Before I began designing, I spent considerable time researching the user base and the branding of ASN Bank to ensure the app would appeal to both children and the client. I summarized my findings along with the key elements of ASN’s branding.
Meet Alvin:
He needs your help! He and his friends have no place to live and want you to build their forest so they can live and play in peace. You assist him by saving money, and in return, he rewards you with walnuts that can be spent in a shop. The process is designed to be simple and easy to understand for young children. The app begins with an onboarding experience to guide users through the setup.
Build the forest to make Alvin a happy squirrel.
After completing the onboarding process, users can create different savings goals:
Once a savings goal is set, the child can begin saving money toward it.
Once the child has saved enough money, they can complete their savings goal and receive a reward in return.
After that, the child can visit the forest and the shop to begin building their forest using the walnuts they have earned:
The more the child saves, the more items they can purchase. Over time, this allows them to build a beautiful and thriving forest.
It was a highly enjoyable project to design and develop, and I received a final grade of 9.0 for my work.
I also created a promotional video for the app, which is presented in Dutch.
